How to Install the AXL Universal Micro Harness on a Crye AVS
A well-configured plate carrier starts with the right components and a deliberate setup. Our AVS Universal Micro Harness installation video walks through assembling the harness, positioning an Equinox cummerbund, and completing the retainer and shock-cord installation on a Crye Precision AVS rear plate bag.
Use the video below as your installation reference. This article highlights the equipment used and the key points to follow as you work through the build.

What the Universal Micro Harness adds
The Universal Micro Harness adds padding at the lower back, supports airflow, and provides PALS mounting space for compatible radio, water, or supplementary pouches. Carrier-specific adapters connect the harness to the selected plate carrier.
The base is sold separately from the required adapter. If you are starting a new setup, the Universal Micro Harness Kit Builder lets you select a harness color and adapter, including the AVS option.
The setup shown in the video
This demonstration uses a Crye Precision AVS MBAV rear plate bag, the Universal Micro Harness base, AVS adapters, a Large/XL Equinox cummerbund, and an Equinox retainer kit. Match your components to the demonstrated configuration before following along; other carriers use different adapters and installation procedures.
Start with adapter orientation
Start at 0:00 for the component overview and initial assembly. Lay out the left and right sides before installing the hardware. The video shows how the F-shaped adapters align with the harness base and how to expose the laminate flap for assembly.
The demonstrated installation uses 12 screw-and-post sets. The presenter notes that the kit supplies 14 sets, leaving two spares.
Position the cummerbund on both sides
At 2:34, the walkthrough covers adapter-leg placement and Equinox spacing on the right side. Watch the routing closely before securing the assembly; the presenter demonstrates how the chosen spacing determines where the cummerbund exits.
At 4:28, the process moves to the left side. The presenter also recommends blue threadlocker on the screws at approximately 5:02. Follow the demonstrated hardware arrangement rather than assuming both sides can be assembled in the same orientation.
Complete the retainer and shock-cord setup
At 6:50, the guide moves to the Equinox retainer kit. For the AVS setup shown, the presenter identifies the two curved retainers and the 52-inch shock-cord piece from that kit.
Follow the video for retainer orientation, cord routing, and slack removal. The final portion shows the ring-pull cord component and the completed installation. Use the footage to check the assembly from both sides before considering the installation complete.
